Day Laboratory

Dr. Brian DayOur laboratory is interested in the role of oxidative stress in lung disease and antioxidant adaptive responses that the lung uses to prevent oxidative stress. In this regard, we are focused on lung thiols and their roles in preventing oxidative injury and in modulating inflammatory host defense responses. We also have active programs developing pharmacological approaches that either supplement antioxidant capacity or stimulate endogenous pathways to increase antioxidant capacity in the lung. Major lung diseases we are currently working on include chronic beryllium disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, acute respiratory distress syndrome, cystic fibrosis, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and lung cancer.
